The populace opinion survey of Taiwan government’s participation in UNFCCC

The main purpose of this national telephone survey is to measure people’s awareness and attitudes regarding Taiwan government’s seeking official participation in UN specialized agencies with a priority target set on the “United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change” (UNFCCC). The questionnaire is based on relevant literature and government policy, and be approved by an expert focus group. The questionnaire has three parts: the perception and knowledge about climate changes, the support of government environmental policies, and the attitudes regarding Taiwan’s participation in UNFCCC. The results show that almost 90% of people have pretty high level of understanding regarding the climate change and global warming issues; most of the respondents felt the impacts of climate change on Taiwan’s environment. More than 60 percents of the people were aware of Taiwan government’s environment policies; more than 80% of people supported government’s current environment policy and were willing to reduce carbon in their daily life; and finally, and more than 90% percents of the people supported Taiwan’s participation in UNFCCC. In sum, the survey results show that Taiwanese have already had basic knowledge regarding climate change. More importantly, this study finds most people agree with Taiwan government’s current environment policy and Taiwan should not be absent at this war of saving living environment and should instead actively fulfill Taiwan’s duty in the global community.
